The first Rocky Mountain Soap Co. Women’s Run, held in Canmore on April 26th can only be classified as a huge victory, both for the participants, as well as the charites – the Pink & Green Ribbon Health Fund (www.pinkandgreenribbon.com) and the Mary A. Tidlund Charitable Foundation (www.tidlundfoundation.com).
Initially, the run’s organizers had hoped to have 200-300 participants in this inaugural event. As it turned out, registration was such that the run had to be capped at 550 participants over two weeks before the event. Participants in the 5.5km and 11km runs were pampered with post-race showers, massages and a healthy lunch, complete with hors d’oeuvres while waiting in the food line! Each runner/walker also left with $50 worth of Rocky Mountain Soap Co. product, including hand & body cream, foot butter bath salts, peppermint lip butter all designed to ease the aches & pains of the run, using 100% natural ingredients.
While the RMS Women’s Run was intended to be a non-competitive event, some of Alberta’s (and Canada’s) finest runners pledged their support. Leading the way by crossing the finish line first in the 11km run was Toronto’s Nicole Stevenson who happened to be in Calgary on business and wanted an opportunity to enjoy the mountain scenery before returning to the hustle & bustle of Toronto. Stevenson is a multiple Canadian road running Champion at 10km, Half Marathon and Marathon and represented our country in the marathon at the 2007 Commonwealth Games in Australia. Other top runners included Magi Scallion and master’s running stand-out, Heather Price, both of Canmore. Up-and-coming Calgarian, Haley Digel finished first in the 5.5km run.
