Running through the Canadian winter can be incredibly rewarding, but it demands a smart approach to clothing, especially layering. Temperatures often dip well below freezing and wind chills make conditions feel harsh. Dressing properly isn’t just about comfort; it’s about safety. Layering helps regulate body temperature, keeping you warm at the start of a run while allowing excess heat and moisture to escape as your body warms up. Without the right layers, runners risk everything from numb extremities to frostbite or hypothermia.
Many of you have visited our store on Canyon Meadows Drive and have noticed that we are not there! Strides Fish Creek is currently operating out of a temporary location in Avenida Village as we prepare our new permanent home in the same complex. This transition happened quicker than we originally planned, so thank you for your patience and support!
Strides Fish Creek continues to serve our community with our wonderful temporary location. If you’ve stopped by this space, you may have noticed it has a bit of personality to it. Housed in a former chiropractor’s office, it’s been a creative “make-it-work” adventure with plenty of rooms and unforgettable blue walls. It’s not traditional retail—but it’s fun, somewhat functional, and full of heart.

As a runner, you likely dedicate a significant amount of time to logging miles and pounding the pavement. There’s a reason why we chose this sport - runners love to run!
Endurance and strength training may feel like opposing forces and it’s not uncommon for runners to shy away from weight training. In reality, one of the BEST things you can do to improve your running is to integrate well-planned strength training into your workout routine.
